Red Weddings

Many couples like the traditional white for their wedding decorations but I assure you that the photos will not be nearly as dramatic as using color in some way.  Even using a strong color as an accent will improve the impact the photos will have and let’s face it, the photos (and the skills of the photographer) the most important part of the event.  Years later the photos will be the only record of the wedding day.

Red Flowers:
There is good reason why red roses are given to sweethearts. Red is symbolic of passion, love, and energy. Red runs through our bodies in raging rivers of blood. Red rushes to our cheeks when we feel the heat of our feelings. Red resonates with the root chakra and reminds us of our animal instincts.  Red is the spark that kindles our flames of desire.  Send red flowers to someone who needs a jolt of energy - this shock of color is sure to get their engines revving!

My suggestion to you is that you look at wedding photos online and reflect on how you would like your wedding album to look.  This will help you decide if adding some color will make you smile for years to come.

Unusual Bridal Bouquets

Unusual Bridal Bouquets

The 2014 wedding season was particularly interesting for me.  Many couples presented me with challenging requests.  One woman walked in saying that she heard that we “work miracles”.  I love a challenge but that was a tough one even for me. 

Couples came to us who didn’t want any flowers at all but wanted us to create awesome decorations and others came who wanted literally thousands of flowers.  All of us at DebraFlower had a great time working together to realize the dreams of our customers. 

The bridal bouquet is specifically my responsibility so in the middle of all these unusual requests came the bridal bouquet.

 

My all time favorite was the bride that did not want flowers.  I designed a bouquet of lollipops for her and she loved it.

 

 

Then came the bride that asked for contrasting textures. I created a bouquet that included items that are not often seen in a bridal bouquet.

Large sunflowers create a challenge especially when the bride is petite but loves them. 

 

Color, color and more color……Luisa made it clear that she wanted as much color as possible.

 

 

I had such a wonderful time finding ways to make my clients dreams come true.

Winter Wedding

Winter wedding

I love winter weddings.  Of course I have said this a number of times but since we are in the month of December it’s the right time to say it again.  My observation is that winter wedding dresses are really very special.  While going into the church a bride can wear some very dramatic white or ivory covering.  Hair and make looks great all day long in the cooler weather.

 

Last weekend I designed a wonderful winter wedding.  We were able to use flowers and greenery that are not available during the summer months which means that our designs were so very special and everyone commented on how beautiful they were.  This wedding was designed with Dutch Tulips.  We were able to reuse the flowers for the reception because the cool weather kept all of the arrangements in an ideal condition.  Winter weddings really do have so many advantages.

Outside the Church

Decoration outside the church for a wedding is a wonderful touch.  Decoration puts the guests in a cheerful mood and almost welcomes them to enter.  It’s a symbol that something special is about to take place. Unfortunately, it’s not often that the budget for decoration allows a client to put flowers outside the church.  However, I encourage my clients to allocate even a small amount to create a simple decoration that reminds guest that a special ceremony is about to take place.

Villa Palazzola

 

This may be your first time to hear about Villa Palazzola but it won’t be your last.  When I received an email August 2011 about an interview as florist for the Villa I wasn’t very excited because I had never heard of it.  Like most of us I immediately “Googled” it and was surprised by the beautiful and informative website www.palazzola.it but all that did not prepare me for the beauty of the place and the kindness of the staff.

 

After that initial visit I was literally hoping that they would choose me and shortly afterwards I received the email that I was hoping for to confirm the request for my design talents at Villa Palazzola. Over the past year I have worked a number of times at the Villa for weddings and other events. The staff really does make you feel welcomed.  They seem to find a way to satisfy the most incredible  requests from their guests.

 

The church is just the right size.  It looks decorated with just one arrangement or breathtaking with a full array of decorations. The Priest is friendly and listens to the couple as they talk about their dreams for creating a new family.

 

The reception area is normally outside because the view is so beautiful that I can’t accurately describe it. Just in case it really does rain there is a classic dining room which I personally love since it has Imperial tables. The food is wholesome and delicious and the staff takes good care of you, what more could you ask for on your wedding day?  Ah yes, decorations by me designed specifically for you.

It’s been far too long since I sent in a blog.  You are probably asking, “where has she gone?”. The answer is simple. This wedding season has been very busy for me.  I am so grateful to all of my clients who have sent me new business. 

 

You may have seen DebraFlower in the Irish version of the VIP Magazine.  Lynn and Nolliag’s wedding at the Borgo di Tragliata was one of my favorites with the vibrant lemon yellow.  DebraFlower was a major part of the team who worked on Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty’s wedding.  We all signed a promise note not to publish any photos from their wedding so I will respect that promise.

DebraFlower designed 62 weddings during 2012.  Most of these weddings came to us from referrals from previous brides.  This makes us all very proud since it means that we made a lot of couples very happy on their wedding day. I am particularly grateful to my Irish customers who really show such gratitude for my personal efforts and the overall production from DebraFlower.

It’s for this reason that every year DebraFlower is a sponsor at the local Celtic Ball that raffles items and collects funds for an Irish charity.  It’s one way to show our appreciation.

So, now that the season is basically over, I will be writing often to share the photos from this seasons weddings and give ideas to help you plan your upcoming wedding.

Hello Debra,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the flowers you created for our wedding. They were exactly what I had hoped for and more. You totally got the rustic feel I was going for and the choices of flowers were just stunning! On the day of the wedding, I was constantly looking at the center pieces and was in awe of your creation and for the days after the wedding, the flowers remained around villa Palazzola and everyone remarked on their beauty. I wanted so badly to take some home but unfortunately I'll have to settle for my pictures and memories of them.

I was sure to tell Joyce how impressed I was with you. I wish you all the best for the future and once again THANK YOU for making our wedding day look and feel so very special.
